India’s High Commission in Dhaka on Thursday issued an advisory for the Indians living in Bangladesh amid violent clashes in the South Asian nation.
“The Indian community members and the Indian students residing in Bangladesh are advised to avoid travel and minimize their movement outside their living premises,” the statement said. The advisory comes in the wake of nationwide clashes between thousands of protesters and members of the student wing of Hasina’s ruling party, the Awami League.
Student protesters in Bangladesh have called for a nationwide shutdown of transportation and businesses starting from Thursday. The move is aimed at pressuring Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to eliminate the government’s job quota system. The demonstrations, which took place earlier in the week, escalated into violence, further intensifying the situation in the South Asian nation.
