The anti quota protest has turned violent in Dhaka resulting in over 18 students killed while over 500 injured in the last 22 hours.
The protestors, mainly students, have been demanding the repealing of the 30 per cent quota in government jobs for the grandchildren of freedom fighters which had been scrapped by prime minister sheikh hasina’s government in 2018 but reinstated by Bangladesh high Court recently.
Some political pundits in New delhi were of the view that this has been engineered by China which wants the country to collapse. The student power has been allegedly instigated by agent provocateur who want the country economy to go haywire and the increase of unemployment may then subsequently result in anti sheikh hasina campaign.
It may be recalled that sheikh hasina had cut her china visit short though the reasons remained unknown. But her meeting wasnot fruitful as far as political and trade issues were concerned.
The Indian government has not taken a stand as yet but there is a flurry in the external affairs ministry and soon there be an official announcement in this regard after the wait and watch monitoring is over.
